DESCRIPTION

Golden Barrel Cactus

Echinocactus grusonii

The Golden Barrel Cactus, one look and it’s easy to see how it got its common name - it features golden spines that line the rib of its globe shape, with a top featuring bright yellow flowers that emerge from a patch of wool. Also known by its botanical name, Echinocactus grusonii, this stunning yellow globe is a must-have in any landscape and fits especially well with any desert, succulent or xeriscape garden! Its unmistakable shape and bright golden tint makes this a very popular medium-sized cactus for both homeowners and landscapers alike throughout Southern California!

Native to Mexico, Golden Barrel Cactus have a slow growth rate and love to grow where there is full sun exposure – the more sun it gets, the more golden and happy it becomes! It’s a waterwise plant, so once established, it has low to moderate watering needs and needs very little care. We love to mass plant them in rows to create a dramatic effect that sets the “wow” factor to high! This is one fine cactus that looks like a living piece of art - perfect for anyone that is looking to add texture, color and shape into any SoCal landscape!

Fun fact: has an amusing nickname, mother-in-law’s cushion! Smaller Golden Barrel Cacti are a popular gift plant.
