Variegated Century Plant (Agave americana variegata)
Variegated Century Plant
Agave americana variegata
This Agave Americana, also known as the Century Plant, is the largest of the Agave species and this “variegated” variety is similar to the non-variegated except for the notable differences in leaf color. The Variegated Century Plants have the same rugged features but boast lighter, fleshier green leaves with a creamy white to yellow marginal variegation. This variegation gives it a unique appearance that helps to make it one of the most desirable Century Plants for a wide variety of landscapes. You could say that this a more colorful version of Agave. It adds a stunning look into any area and is the perfect choice for adding color and sculptural interest into your landscape!
We love to plant Variegated Century Plants a number of ways. We love to line them up to create a natural fence or protective barrier and they also grow very well in large patio planters, too. It’s a fairly large sized Agave and its distinctive form makes it an excellent choice for use as a focal point in a mixed border. They prefer to grow where there is plenty of full sun exposure and are a very low maintenance plant. Once established, it will have low to moderate watering needs.
Compared to other cacti, Variegated Century Plant grows at a fast rate. That said, if you’re looking for a bigger Agave, Palm Paradise has got you covered.
