Brazilian Skyflower (Duranta repens)

DESCRIPTION

The Brazilian Skyflower is an evergreen shrub native to southern Florida, West Indies, Mexico to Brazil and at home in a variety of landscapes right here in Southern California! Duranta repens are fantastic drought tolerant plants that produce long narrow clusters of small purple flowers followed by yellow/orange berries that can add a nice splash of color into water-wise landscapes. We love to plant them in any landscape where they can be used as an effective background or screen too!

This Duranta loves to grow where there is full sun to partial sun exposures and once established can grow just fine with low to moderate watering needs. They are cold hardy and they are a popular shrub that can be seen from the coast to the desert, where their ornamental berries and showy flowers add a scenic picture anywhere they are planted! We recommend shearing them in the spring, doing this can promote full growth habit, which is especially useful if they’re being used as an informal privacy hedge.

If there is an empty, large spot on your landscape, consider adding this relatively maintenance free and beautiful Brazilian Skyflower! We offer professional landscape design consultation right here at our nursery and we would love to show you around and help you select the perfect trees, shrubs and other plants that can add curb appeal and value to your property! We do what no one else does, we grow our own from our private stock of premium quality specimens, so we can assure their quality is above the rest!

  • Also known as Pigeon Berry and Golden Dew Drop because of the strictly ornamental yellow berries they can produce
  • Their showy flowers attract hummingbirds and butterflies
  • Some people like to train them as bonsai and topiaries
  • Landscapers love its fast growth rate
